Euro (sign: €, Code ISO 4217: EUR) - European currency introduced in place of national currencies. Legal tender in the European Union and several other countries outside its area, with a combined 320 million citizens. The euro is also used in the majority of dependent territories of France.
Euro Zone (Euroland, Euroobszar, the euro area) is forming a monetary union a common space of the EU countries that adopted the euro as their currency, where the European Central Bank maintained an independent monetary policy.
Euro symbol is the result of work carried out by the European Commission. The project had to satisfy three conditions: to present an easy to manually record and easily recognized sign of Europe, have a simple and aesthetic appearance.
Of the thirty two projects were selected. Chief among them the Commission, Jacques Santer and European Commissioner, Yves-Tribault de Silguy chose the final, which today sygnuje all documents relating to the common European currency. Hence the Euro symbol.
The symbol is inspired by the Greek letter epsilon referring to the Antiquities and the source of European civilization. The symbol also refers to the first letter of the word "Europe". Two parallel lines to indicate the stability of the European currency.
The official abbreviation for the name of the currency is the euro. So it is registered with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
